I first learned of McGirr gravestones at St. MacCartan's Cathedral from a Clogher Publication at the PRONI. While driving through Co. Tyrone I spotted the church sitting atop a hill and seized the opportunity to explore the graveyard. Beating the rainfall that day I found amidst of thousands of headstones and flatstones the plot's location (indicated by the call out pointer). Inscriptions below:
•Ref 111: Here lieth the body of John McGirr who departed this life the 3rd. May 1768 aged 76 years (1692-3 May 1768). In a grave next to this is: Here lieth the body of John McGirr the younger, who departed this life 12th Jan 1770 age 23 years (1747-12 Jan 1770 . John McGirr the younger is the son of John McGirr who died in 1768. •Ref 116; This stone was erected by Anne O’Donnelly in memory of her husband Felix McGirr who departed this life March 1787, aged 60 years (1717-Mar 1787). Here lieth the body of Owen McGirr who departed this life 22nd. Feb 1740 aged 74 years (1666-22 Feb 1740). •Ref 301: Erected by Anne and Susan McGirr in memory of their beloved Father Edward McGirr of Clarmore who departed this life in March 1836 aged 70 years (1760-Mar 1836) and also their beloved brother James McGirr who departed this life 22nd. May 1854 aged 34 years (1820-22 May 1854). •Ref 303: Here lieth the body of Hugh McGirr who departed this life 2nd Nov 1767 aged 21 years (1746-2 Nov 1767). •Ref 316: Here lieth the body of Bryan McGirr who departed this life 4th May 1733 aged 67 years (1666-4 May 1733).
