St. MaCarten has one of the oldest Christian cemeteries in Ireland with the first bishop buried there in 506 A.D. It was the burial grounds for all denominations within a five mile radius from Ballinassaggart and Errigol, Co. Monaghan on one side to Aghavea on the other until abt.1841. At least half a million people, Plantar and Gael, poor and rich alike are at rest here. CR pp 9-12
