The Celtic Nations
The Celts were originally from Central Europe, and inhabited Ireland as well as England, Scotland, and Brittany in northern France around 500-150 B.C. after being driven to the west and north, mostly by the Romans. Today, there are 'Six Nations' that (alone) are considered Celtic by the Celtic League, Celtic Congress, and various other pan-Celtic groups. Each of these six can boast a Celtic language of its own; Brittany, Cornwall, Ireland, Isle of Man, Scotland, and Wales. Historically, speakers of a Brittonic (P-Celtic) language were known to have emigrated to parts of Galicia and Asturias, as well as parts now in northern in Portugal and so are often highlighted as areas influenced by Celtic culture. However, in none of these regions has a Celtic language survived, therefore the most common litmus test for Celticity does not apply.
